Epstein Files Transparency Act

On November 18, 2025, Congress moved rapidly to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act, requiring the Department of Justice (DOJ) to publish all unclassified records in its possession related to the investigation and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein.

“This was an unprecedented day for survivors of sexual violence—survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. After years of effort, they got to see Congress vote YES in favor of transparency and truth.”

– Scott Berkowitz, RAINN president and founder

Key Provisions of the Epstein Files Transparency Act

• Full public disclosure. The law mandates publication, in a searchable and downloadable format, of unclassified documents, communications, and investigative materials related to Jeffrey Epstein, including materials concerning Ghislaine Maxwell, flight logs, travel records, and individuals named or referenced in connection with the case.

• Protection for victims and active investigations. DOJ may withhold limited information, such as victims’ personal identifying information or materials that could jeopardize an active federal investigation.

Congressional oversight. Within 15 days of publication, DOJ must report to Congress detailing categories of information released and withheld, summaries of redactions, and a list of government officials and politically exposed individuals named in the materials.
