Tell your story. Change the narrative. Join a global movement of survivors speaking out about sexual violence and survival.

Survivors’ stories are radically reshaping the world’s understanding of sexual violence—and what it means to be a survivor.

Speak Out! Contribute To RAINN’s Story Campaigns

RAINN’s story campaigns facilitate authentic and ethical storytelling from survivors who wish to publicly share their personal stories in support of RAINN’s mission: To stop sexual violence by supporting survivors, holding perpetrators accountable, and creating safer communities.

Let’s Talk About Prevention

Is prevention possible? And if it is, how can it be achieved? Share your insights and experiences to improve prevention efforts.

Let’s Talk About Justice

What does justice mean to you? And did you get it? RAINN’s prompts will help you tackle some of the toughest questions about justice for survivors.

Let’s Talk About Healing

How can survivors begin to heal? What helps—and what hurts? Share your hard-won wisdom and help other survivors start their healing journeys.

Speak out! Together, we’re changing minds, changing laws, and changing lives.

Help Eliminate Statutes of Limitations (SOLs)

Survivors deserve to pursue justice on their own timeline. If you were denied justice by the statute of limitations, your story can help RAINN inspire lawmakers to act!

Help End Tech-Enabled Sexual Abuse

Did you experience AI deepfakes, revenge porn, cyberstalking, sextortion, or another tech-based sex offense? Your story can help pass laws that criminalize this fast-growing abuse.

Help Survivors Feel Safe Reporting

If you did NOT report to the police for fear of being arrested for alcohol or drug use or possession, your story can make a difference! Survivors deserve to report sexual violence without fear.

Help Require Trauma-Informed Training for Investigators

When police are trained to understand trauma, survivors feel supported and cases are stronger. Your story can elevate RAINN’s efforts to require trauma-informed training for investigators of sex offenses.

Help Hold Predatory Professionals Accountable

When trusted professionals (like doctors or teachers) sexually exploit the people they’re supposed to serve, the public should know. Your story can help RAINN demand transparency and accountability.

“I want every survivor to know: You can be proud and stand up and live your life. It’s not your shame to wear. It’s the rapist’s shame.”

RAINN Story Campaign FAQs

Why share my insights and experiences with RAINN?

RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization and operator of the National Sexual Assault Hotline. We work to expand prevention, ensure justice, and provide healing to create safer communities.

By sharing your personal experiences and insights with RAINN and allowing us to amplify what you’ve shared, you can help:

  • Guide other survivors toward hope, help, healing, and happiness.
  • Influence laws that ensure accountability and justice.
  • Inspire others to show up, speak out, and step in to stop sexual violence.
What does RAINN do with the stories (“content”) I share?

We publish and promote survivors’ content in support of RAINN’s mission: To stop sexual violence by supporting survivors, holding perpetrators accountable, and creating safer communities.

We accept content that helps RAINN support survivors, improve public policy, educate the public, drive institutional change, and raise funds to sustain our programs.

RAINN may use your content, in full or in part, in one or more of these publicly accessible spaces:

  • RAINN’s website and app
  • RAINN’s press releases and public statements
  • RAINN’s social/digital media channels
  • RAINN’s printed materials
  • Emails sent by RAINN
  • Other RAINN-owned and managed channels

KEEP IN MIND: Once your content has been published online, anyone may see it, save it, share it, or engage with it.

Will RAINN alter or edit my content?

RAINN may use your content in full or in part, meaning we may use ALL of your submission, or we may feature a portion of what you shared.

RAINN may, at its discretion, alter your content for accessibility, clarity, and/or safety by:

  • Translating the content into another language.
  • Redacting or removing language or information that may cause harm or create risk.
  • Shortening your content if it’s longer than recommended.
  • Correcting misspelled words, missing punctuation, or grammatical errors.
Will my privacy be protected?

You have total control over what you share and how you are credited for your content. Here are some important considerations:

  • Content shared publicly and online is accessible globally.
  • You are responsible for reviewing your content before submitting it to RAINN.
  • You are responsible for sharing only what you feel safe with others knowing.
  • You have the right to withdraw your consent for RAINN to use your content. (See FAQ #7 for details.)
  • RAINN staffers are mandatory reporters. If you are under 18 years old and you share your name, age, or location, RAINN may be legally required to file a report with local authorities.

NOTE: RAINN is not responsible if you provide content that violates the law or infringes upon pre-existing agreements.

Will RAINN pay me for my story?

You will not receive compensation for content you submit to RAINN. Your participation in RAINN’s story-gathering work is entirely voluntary. RAINN is here for you 24/7/365, whether or not you ever choose to share or speak publicly about what happened to you.
