Terms & Conditions

By contributing to this story-gathering initiative, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

I (the “story owner”) understand that sharing my stories and personal experiences (the “content”) with RAINN is voluntary. 

I hereby grant RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, Inc.) permission to collect and use my submitted content, in full or in part, as specified below:

WHERE MY CONTENT MAY APPEAR 

I understand that RAINN may use my content, in full or in part, in one or more of these publicly accessible spaces:

• RAINN’s website and app
• RAINN’s press releases and public statements
• RAINN’s social/digital media channels
• RAINN’s printed materials
• Emails sent by RAINN
• Other RAINN-owned and managed channels

Once my content has been published online, I understand that anyone may see it, save it, share it, or engage with it. 

HOW RAINN MAY ALTER MY CONTENT 

RAINN may use my content in full or in part. I agree that RAINN may, at its discretion, alter my content for accessibility, clarity, and/or safety by:

• Translating the content into another language
• Redacting or removing language or information that may cause harm or create risk
• Shortening your content if it’s longer than recommended
• Correcting misspelled words, missing punctuation, or grammatical errors

PRIVACY & LIABILITY

I understand that RAINN is not responsible if I provide content that violates the law or infringes upon pre-existing agreements.

I understand that: 

RAINN staffers are mandatory reporters. If I share my name, age, or location and I am under 18, RAINN may be legally required to file a report with local authorities.  

• Content shared publicly and online is accessible globally.
• I am responsible for reviewing my content before submitting it to RAINN.
• I am responsible for sharing only what I feel safe sharing.
• I have the right to withdraw my consent for RAINN to use my content.
• RAINN staffers are mandatory reporters. If I share my name, age, or location and I am under 18, RAINN may be legally required to file a report with local authorities.  

COMPENSATION

I understand that I will not receive compensation for content I submit to RAINN and that my participation in RAINN’s story-gathering work is entirely voluntary. 

CODE OF CONDUCT

I agree to help RAINN reduce the risk of harm by:

✅ Responding to the prompts provided

✅ Sharing my own ideas, insights, and personal experiences

✅ Protecting my privacy by withholding personally identifying details that may put me at risk

I understand that RAINN may reject my content submission if it includes any of the following: 

🚫 Graphic descriptions of sexual violence

🚫 Name(s) other than my own

🚫 Hate speech

🚫 Threats of violence

🚫 Doxing (sharing someone’s private contact information)

🚫 Cyberbullying

🚫 Obscenity or profanity

🚫 Misinformation or disinformation

🚫 Personal attacks

CONSENT

I understand that I may revise or withdraw my consent for RAINN to use my content by following these steps:

1. Email storyconsent@rainn.org.
2. Provide your legal name, describe the content, and (if possible) provide a link to the content you want removed. 
3. Describe your concerns and/or make your request.
4. Assist RAINN in verifying your identity as the content owner.
5. RAINN will cease using your content to create new media.
6. RAINN will collaborate with you to remove your identity and/or content from existing media wherever possible. 

Agreement

By submitting my content, I confirm that I have read, understood, and agree to these terms and conditions. I agree to allow RAINN to collect and use my content as specified above.
